In Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan in northwestern India, there are two million people and almost as many animals unevenly sharing an ever diminishing living space, both hostile and dangerous. The animals, whether wild or working, are everywhere. It is thanks to their “beasts of burden” that some humans are able to evade poverty. As for the wild beasts, their role is no less organic. Using these animals as unwitting guides, the film takes the viewer on a journey towards Man – with their aid it explores the many strata of this complicated and fascinating society.
