Bio

I’m an award-winning filmmaker drawn to difficult stories and the human questions within them. I enter worlds that can be divisive or uncomfortable with empathy and curiosity. Rather than telling audiences what to think, I make films that create space for reflection, challenge assumptions, and search for the underlying connections between us. My documentaries often begin with an intimate human story and open onto larger questions about justice, race, education, community, morality, and the institutions that shape our lives. I approach nonfiction as both investigation and art, using cinematic storytelling to allow audiences to experience complexity for themselves. My documentary Man on Fire received an IDA Documentary Award and premiered nationally on PBS’s Independent Lens. North Putnam received the Indiana Spotlight Award at the Heartland International Film Festival. The Spiritual Advisor, about a death row spiritual advisor and activist, premiered at DOC NYC and is distributed by Rolling Stone Films. Finding Lucinda is distributed by Freestyle Digital Media. My narrative films include Game Night (Tribeca Film Festival), Remittance (Best Actress and Best Screenplay, Brooklyn Film Festival), and David (Ecumenical Prize, Montreal World Film Festival). Across my work, I’m interested in entering difficult worlds with an open mind and finding the human connection beneath the surface.
